The Method
Racing is full of horses that are going to win. The Proven Form Method is only interested in the ones that already have. It works older horses in handicaps. That is the part of the card with the most evidence lying around in plain sight, and the part most punters avoid because it looks difficult.
There is an enormous difference between a horse that might improve and one that has improved. One is prediction. The other is evidence.
Jack Delaney · The Handicapper
The eight steps
01
Older-horse handicaps, on the Flat or over jumps, where most of the field has already shown what it can do. The evidence has to exist before it can be read.
flat handicaps · handicap hurdles · handicap chases · exposed fields
never: maidens · novices · unraced · lightly raced improvers
02
One question before any other. Which horses in this race have already proved they can win? Then, and only then, the qualifiers.
won at this trip · on this going · at this class · off a mark like today's · at this track
03
This is where the method earns its keep. Every phrase below might turn out to be true. Not one of them is proof.
“sure to improve” · “running on late” · “better than the result” · “one for next time”
04
Winning form counts for nothing if it has gone cold. A horse does not need to have won last time out, but it has to show it is still capable of winning.
still running well · recent spark · beaten too far · an excuse last time · back to suitable conditions
05
The vital one, and the reason this is a handicap method. What mark did it last win from, and what is it on today? The sweet spot is a proven winner back near or below its last winning mark.
last winning mark · today's mark · well treated or too high · dropping in class
06
The right horse in the wrong setup is still a losing bet. Ability has to meet a day that suits it.
track · trip · going · class · draw · field size · headgear · days since it ran
07
This is what stops you picking the right horse in the wrong race. A selection has to fit the shape of the contest, not just the form book.
who leads · who races handy · too much pace, or none · will closers get into it
08
Before the bet is struck, one question settles it: am I backing proven ability under suitable conditions, or am I backing hope? Proven ability goes forward. Hope is a danger sign.
Rarely does one factor make a bet. The object is to build a case, and the more pieces of reliable evidence pointing the same way, the stronger that case gets. When all eight of these line up, it goes out.
The Record
Four months of the Proven Form Method, from 6 May to 30 August 2026. One point a bet, level stakes, every one settled at the Starting Price returned at the off. To a £10 point that is £1,775 of profit from £1,470 staked.
Both ways of settling it
The same 147 bets, the same stakes, priced two ways. Take the Starting Price and you get the top row. Take Betfair SP instead, after their commission comes off, and you get the second.
| Settled at | Bets | Staked | Won | Profit to a £10 bet | Points | ROI |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starting Pricethe price returned at the off | 147 | £1,470 | 36 | +£1,775.00 | +177.5 | 120.7% |
| Betfair SPafter 5% commission | 147 | £1,470 | 36 | +£2,454.21 | +245.4 | 167.0% |
Anyone can publish a good month. Four things make this record worth more than the number at the top of it, and every one of them is something you can go and check yourself.
It got stronger as the season went on
May was one winner from twelve and the method was still finding the right races. From June onwards it did not have a losing month. The best of the four was August, the run-in to the autumn.
| Month | Bets | Won | Strike | Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| May 2026 | 12 | 1 | 8% | -7.0 |
| June 2026 | 23 | 7 | 30% | +44.5 |
| July 2026 | 40 | 10 | 25% | +49.0 |
| August 2026 | 72 | 18 | 25% | +91.0 |
Profit in every price bracket
Not one band carrying the rest. The method returned a profit backing 4/1 shots, 10/1 shots and 20/1 shots alike, which is what you would expect from a method built on the handicap mark rather than on the price.
| Starting price | Bets | Won | Strike | Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4/1 to 8/1 | 54 | 25 | 46% | +104.5 |
| 17/2 to 14/1 | 52 | 7 | 13% | +30.0 |
| 16/1 and bigger | 41 | 4 | 10% | +43.0 |
Backing horses at a 10/1 median means losing runs. Three in four of these bets did not win, and the method is built on the ones that do paying for them several times over.
Across the whole four months the deepest the bank ever went was 8 points below where it started, and the longest it went without a winner was nine races. That is the shape of it, and it is why the Muster is staked level at 1 point a bet from a 50-point bank, big enough that a quiet fortnight stays a quiet fortnight.

Questions
The ones worth asking of any service like this one, answered straight. If yours is not here, ask it before you buy rather than after.
It is a high figure and you are right to look twice at it. So rather than ask you to take it on trust, here is what sits behind it.
Every bet is settled at the Starting Price returned at the off, so there is no advised price in there that you could not have got. All 147 selections are published on this page, winners and losers, with nothing quietly dropped. The shortest priced selection in the whole run was 4/1, so it is not a pile of odds-on winners flattering the strike rate. And if you take the five biggest winners out altogether and count them as losers instead, the four months still return 78.5 points.
Every row carries a date, a track, a horse and a price. Pick any one of them and check it against the result.
Older horses in handicaps, and very little else. Flat handicaps, handicap hurdles and handicap chases, where most of the field has already shown what it can do.
No maidens, no novice races, nothing that depends on a horse being better than it has so far proved. The full method is set out above this section.
There is no quota either. If a card has nothing on it that meets the method, nothing goes out. Forcing a bet on a quiet day is how a record like the one above gets ruined.
By 8am on the morning of racing.
That gives you the whole morning to get the bet on, and it means the selection is with you well before the market has had a chance to move.
Both by email and through a Telegram channel. The same selection, at the same time, by both routes, so you are covered whichever you happen to check first.
Joining the Telegram channel takes about a minute and the invite link is in your welcome email. You do not have to use it. Email alone works perfectly well.
There is no advised price here, so there is nothing to miss. The record on this page is settled at the Starting Price returned at the off, which is exactly what you get by taking SP on every bet.
If you want to do better than that, take the early price and use a bookmaker who pays Best Odds Guaranteed. You keep the price you took, and if the horse drifts you are paid at SP instead, so the guarantee only ever works in your favour.
Or take Betfair SP. Over these four months it returned more than SP did: +245.4 points after 5% commission against +177.5. Both columns are in the results sheet, so you can see how the two compare bet by bet.
No. The record is published at Starting Price precisely so that you can take SP with any bookmaker and expect the figures on this page.
It is also published at Betfair SP, after their 5% commission, because on this run that came out higher: +245.4 points against +177.5 at SP. Use whichever suits you. Both columns are in the results sheet.
50 points, staked level at 1 point a bet, win only.
Across the qualifying campaign the deepest the bank ever went was 8 points below where it started, and the longest it went without a winner was nine races. A 50 point bank absorbs that comfortably, with a lot of room to spare.
Whatever you decide a point is worth, it should be an amount you are entirely relaxed about losing.
It ends. The Autumn Muster runs from September through to the November Handicap and then stands down for the year.
One payment, no rebill, nothing to cancel and no subscription running on in the background.
No. Nobody can, and anyone who tells you otherwise is not worth your money.
What we can do is show you the whole record rather than the good bits, set out exactly how a selection is arrived at, and publish every bet as it goes. Past results are not a promise of future ones.
The Autumn Muster
That is the whole of it. Older horses in handicaps, a case built from evidence that already exists, and a price that makes sense on the day. Eight weeks of it, then we stand down for the year.

18+. The Autumn Muster is a tipping service. We are not a bookmaker, we do not take bets and we do not hold funds. Betfair SP figures are shown after 5% commission.
